Rare Bird Accounts

Limpkin (Aramus guarauna)

10/18/04

These Limpkin  pictures were taken on 6/6/04 at Lake Blalock, Henry County, Georgia by Bob Zaremba.  This bird is accidental in Georgia, although at one time probably breed in southern Georgia along the Altamaha River basin.  Patrick Brisse located this bird at Lake Blalock/Lake Shamrock, near the ELHUIE ponds on 6/6.  The bird was actively feeding on mussels (which can be seen in several pictures piled on the shore line), and stayed in the same general area most of the day.  It was seen intermittently for several days following the initial sighting.
