The Empid was on top, and was seen at eye level on several different perches and from different angles. It was clearly a Traill's type, based on color, size, bill and primary projection. It had a very obvious eye ring, and between that and some other plumage features was almost certainly an Alder. The prevailing wisdom is that you can't call a silent Traill's, but I discussed this bird with Jon Dunn after I got home and he thinks it's an Alder also.
