The CERW were seen in various places, with = one single flock at the top contain 5 individuals with 3 adult males! = Great looks at the birds. Here is the CERW data for the past few years = for comparison; This is the highest single day total for KMT since 9/7/1997 when we had = 16. As we are all aware, Cerulean Warbler populations have been = declining over the past 10 years. Here's a snap shot of high counts = and season totals for the past few years at Kennesaw Mtn; 2002 - 12 on 8/2 2001 - 9 on 8/17, total =3D 96 2000 - 3 mult days, total =3D 33 *(less than optimal coverage in Aug) 1999 - 11 on 8/27, total =3D 112 1998 - 11 on 8/22, total =3D 101 1997 - 16 on 9/7, total =3D 222 1996 - 8 on 7/26, total =3D 118 1995 - 32 on 8/13, total =3D 277 1994 - 19 on 7/31, total =3D 239 1993 - 18 on 8/7, total =3D 130 *(less than optimal coverage in = Aug) Although the data is far from scientific, it does show a declining trend = for this species in this heavily birded area. Today's high count was = encouraging. The mix of adults and immature birds was nice to see also, = we had 3 adult males (2 still showing the necklace), 3 adult females, 3 = immature females and 3 unknown as to age or sex. =20 Bob Z
