SUTA 2 m SCTA 7 4m, 2f RBGR 1 FOTS CHSP 1 WTSP 5 DEJU 3 BHCO 5 2m, 3f AMGO 5 Great coverage on the mountain today. The Sandhill Cranes flew over very low at around 8:30AM near the pit area. An excerpt of the following unpublished species account is included with the authors permission, "Based on recorded observations, an accidental late fall and early spring migrant, 4 Nov-15 Dec and 7 Feb-20 Feb, with 7 records. In reality this should be an uncommon migrant but the times that most cranes are migrating are not times we have much coverage at KMT. Here are the only sightings I have records of, a very skimpy file: 14 Dec 1991: no number given, PR 17 Nov 1993: no details or observer 22 Nov 1993: 1500 by unk obs 4 Nov 1995: 168, GB, BD 16 or 18 Dec 1996: "large flock flying over the KPM area at altitude," SRe 7 Feb 1997: 36 heading north over KMT, seen from KPM, GB 20 Feb 1997: 30, unk obs =20 21 Feb 2004: four flocks, 98, 19, 57, and 26 totaling 200, GB, CS" Today's sighting sets a new late date by 49 days!
