Kennesaw Mountain Report 3/21/2004 0715-0945 50F-53F Clear and sunny but cold with the wind. A thunderstorm moved through the area around 0200 last night but no other weather to speak of. Winds NW 15kts Obs: G Beaton, M Davis, R+A Hester, J Heyda, K Osborne, B Zaremba CAGO 2 TUVU 5 RTHA 2 YBSA 10 EAPH 2 BHVI 10 FICR 15 one flock, a new high count for KMT (old was 6 on 31 Mar 2002). There is a count of 21 from the marsh though (4 Oct 2000) WBNU 2 CARW carrying nest material near stake #8 WIWR 1 GCKI 3 RCKI 4 BGGN 1m fots, 2nd earliest ever (19 Mar 2002) EABL 4 HETH 2 CEDW 48, all in VC parking lot BTNW 1m FOTS YRWA 13 PIWA 2m BAWW 1m CHSP 1 SOSP 2 WTSP 4 DEJU 46 all in VC lot area BHCO 15 a mixed flock of males and females flew through the saddle HOFI 1 We also found 5 live but cold and slow-moving salamanders in the road. Based on studies by herpetologist Carlos Camp at KMT, the 4 we found well below the saddle are probably Southern Red-backed Salamander and the one above the saddle is probably Webster's Salamander.
