Kennesaw Mountain Report 7/22/2007 0740-0930 69F-69F Overcast and gloomy with a couple of breaks in the overcast. Light rain began at 0905. Winds SE 5-8 kts. Obs: G Beaton CHSW 8+ many were flying up in the clouds, probably more than this, but I couldn’t get a count RTHU 1 EAWP 1 REVI 6 at least one begging juv… and no cowbirds! WBNU 4 BGGN 1 WOTH 1 NOPA 1m BTNW 1m singing near the top BAWW 1m HOWA 3 1m 1f 1juv the male was singing down behind the maintenance area, and the female with begging juv were out on the edge of the maintenance field SUTA 1m SCTA 4 2m 2 call AMGO 2 The two male SCTA were giving a “song” I have never heard (I watched them sing). It was one short phrase, repeated very quickly over and over again, and was similar to the first part of a normal song… These two males were giving this song without pause as I walked up the mountain, just above the monument, and were still both giving it as I walked back down in the rain. Also, I saw a few other warblers I couldn’t ID due to the dark conditions… so there are a few birds here anyway. CERW should be here by now. Giff
