The low numbers of YRWA and BTNW are both surprising and disturbing. By
early April we are typically getting YRWA counts in the 20s or more every
day, and this year so far the daily numbers have been very low. For BTNW, by
4/4 here are the totals for recent years: 2005-22, 2004-54, 2003-52,
2002-12. This year so far is 6. Both 2004 and 2002 ended up being about 100
birds lower for spring than average years, so I don't think this early you
can really tell. Early April also sometimes has high counts that we haven't
seen yet, so maybe they are just a few days behind this year (4/5/2004-19,
4/3/2004-20, 4/4/2004-18). Hopefully the larger numbers will show up soon.
