For those of you who care, according to Pyle in the ID Guide to North American passerines, this is the story on aging and sexing SCTA: Birds with all-black wings are adult (after hatch-year) males " " black leading edges (wing coverts) of wings black and rest brownish are imm (hatch-year) males All females have duller, brownish wings. Imm females do only a partial molt before migrating, so there should be a mix of fresh and worn wing feathers while on the adult female all feathers should be fresh. This may be difficult to see in the field! Hope this helps, Giff
