Kennesaw Mountain Report  9/29/97

The front came through yesterday, and this morning started out foggy but
cleared at dawn with w/nw winds 5-10 throughout the morning.

BAEG 1 imm seen soaring over the road briefly at 1000. Initially taken for
a GOEG subadult because it had a small head and a dark terminal band on
tail. Wings too wide and light white mottling underneath but not at base of
primaries/secondaries, so BAEG.
This id is not easy, so be careful! Prob between Basic I and Basic II
(subadult).
2nd record ever at Kennesaw, first only 11 days ago! That one was an adult.

A good day, and I'm sure there would have been more hawks after we left.
There were birds all over the mountain, and with the numbers of observers
we have been getting there's no telling how many species or numbers we
might have tallied. Can't have all the fronts push through on weekends I
guess. Tomorrow will probably be good as well.
