2000 KENNESAW MOUNTAIN FALL SUMMARY Here at last is the Fall 2000 Summary for KMT. This is the same format as last spring: Four letter band code for species, then total number seen this season, followed by the five year average total for fall (rounded to nearest whole). Then extreme date range, then dates this species was “common” (NC means never common, or at least not consistently common), then the one day high count this season with the all-time one day high count in parens. The season total is the sum of all daily totals, so a single bird may be counted on successive days and artificially pump up the total. I will try to comment whenever this occurs, such as when uncommon species breed and get counted every day. Total counted was 5492, compared to 6706 in ’99 and 7736 in ’98. Fairly low coverage in July and August and another early end of coverage in mid-October. Hard to tell if numbers of species are down too, because a few species showed up well. Warbler totals were 1900 for year 2000, compared to 2415 in ’99 and 2167 for ’98. The five-year average for all warblers is almost 2800… We will be trying to look at coverage dates and observer numbers to try to make sense out of all this, but in the meantime please bird any day you can and thanks for everyone’s hard work! Special thanks to BZ for all the spreadsheet work, which makes these summaries possible! Giff
