Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea)

These Curlew Sandpiper (Calidris ferruginea ) photographs were taken on Little Tybee Island, Chatham County, Georgia on July 9, 2000 by Bob Zaremba. The Georgia Annotated Checklist lists Curlew Sandpiper as hypothetical. Recorded from Altamaha State Wildlife Management Area, McIntosh County on 19 Nov 1961 and from Jekyll Island causeway on Apr 20 1975, but with insufficient details for provisional status. This is the first documented occurrence of the species in Georgia. This was bird was discovered by Deb Barrio on July 6 and seen again by numerous observers on July 9. The bird remained several days in the same area and was last seen on 7/12/2000.
